How much hydroponic solution do I need to use?
The amount of hydroponic solution you need to use will depend on a lot of factors.

It depends on the type of crops you are growing, what your goal is, how big your system is, how mature your crops are, and the type of nutrient solution.

Most nutrient solution manufacturers will provide you with a proportion to use.

For example, General Hydroponics Flora Series is a three-part liquid solution. The two primary parts are FloraGro and FloraMicro with an optional FloraBloom.

If you’re growing a basil seedling or cutting, it recommends you use 1/4 tsp of Gro and 1/4 tsp of Micro per gallon of water. So, 1/2 tsp per gallon of water total.

But if you’re growing a mature basil plant for casual growth, use 1 tsp of Gro and 1 tsp of Micro per gallon. So, 2 tsp per gallon of water total. If you’re growing a mature basil plant for aggressive growth, triple those measurements (6tsp/gallon).

And if you want your basil to develop flowers, you’ll want to use the Flora part too. So, 1 tsp of Gro, 2 tsp of Micro and 3 tsp of Flora (6 tsp/gallon total).

Different crops need different nutrients too. If you use a bigger system, you’ll need to use more water, so you’ll need to use more solution. Plus, different manufacturers will give you different recommendations, which are specific to their product.
